Most of the ingredients were right at this fickle spot at high tide on Saturday afternoon but it fell short because the tide was too full allowing cross-waves from the back of the next bay west to disorganise the shoulder to head-high very long period thick waves. Occasionally lined up. Sunny with a very light offshore.

‘Porth Neigwl: Waves were fairly lined up and chest high as the tide was dropping. It became increasingly messy and smaller by 06.’

The light NW left some lump on the swell, even after the wind fell light about 4pm. Just myself out and about shoulder-high waves. It was improving in terms of size and shape but it got too dark to surf. Clear skies and mild temperatures for July.

Light onshore with 7 surfers in at low tide. Shoulder high and not great shape because of the wind, but surfable. Cloudy with spells of rain.

Building clean swell was only waist-high when I arrived but soon increased to shoulder high on the sets and tending head-high by dusk. Apart from two surfers at the beach-break, nobody else in. A rare treat. Very light offshore. Overcast but dry.

Building swell on Wedenesday afternoon with about 15 surfers enjoying glassy head-high+ waves. Overcast but dry.

Smaller swell than Friday and the local SE wind was blowing stronglu cross off and generating a wind-chop at the point. Just 6 out here. I surfed the middle of the bay instead, where the waves looked biggest. Still wind-affected but some good shape waves, generally about shoulder-high.

Excellent conditions on Friday am with about 15 surfers at the point. Light offshore with shoulder to head-high waves. It got hollow on the gravel bar. Mellower very long lefts on the inside bar as the tide came in. Cloud and rain slowly clearing.

Overhead clean set waves with light wnds sounds ideal but there was a very strong sidehore current and a lot of the surf was dumpy. Just a handful of surfers out and having short sessions. Ruby Bay was better shape and smaller but the road was closed a long way short of the campground so nobody was surfing the point.

Wednesday afternoon offered mostly shoulder-high set waves though it was still head-high just as we paddled out at 1pm. The easterly stayed the right side of offshore so although it was on the smaller side, it was ok. Mostly cloudy with brief drizzle and the odd sunny spell.

Small but with more tide it could be time to teach your toddler to surf or take your longboard and coffin to the beach.
