Akahanga on the South Coast is an exposed point break that has fairly consistent surf. Winter is the best time of year for surfing here. Ideal winds are from the northwest. Tends to receive distant groundswells and the best swell direction is from the south. Good surf at all stages of the tide. Unlikely to be too crowded, even when the surf is up. Hazards include rocks and urchins.
