Prainha Surf Guide
Prainha in Rio de Janeiro is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that has very reliable surf, although summer tends to be mostly flat. Offshore winds are from the northwest with some shelter here from west winds. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the best swell direction is from the south. The beach break offers both left and right hand waves and there are also left and right hand reef breaks on offer. Good surf at all stages of the tide. When the surf is up, it can get quite busy in the water. Hazards include - Man-made danger (buoys etc.) - Localism, rips.
