Puwheke Beach in Northland is a fairly exposed beach and reef break that has inconsistent surf The best wind direction is from the south and there is no shelter here from cross shore breezes. Most of the surf here comes from groundswells and the ideal swell direction is from the north. Waves at the beach break both left and right and there are also left and right hand reef breaks on offer. The quality of the surf isn't affected by the tide. Even when the surf is up, crowds are unknown. Submerged rocks are a hazard.
